Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini is determined not to be too downbeat despite his side's 2-1 defeat at West Ham today.

Pellegrini saw his side fall behind in the 21st minute at Upton Park when Morgan Amalfitano converted from close range.

The Citizens struggled to draw level and saw themselves fall further behind when Diafra Sakho headed home a cross in the 75th minute to double the Hammers' advantage.

The champions were given some hope however when David Silva curled in a shot just two minutes later.

But West Ham held on and Chelsea can now go eight points clear of Manchester City if they can beat Manchester United tomorrow.

"West Ham played very well and with a very high intensity. We had a lot of chances to score but it is difficult to win if you don't take them. We were very unlucky in the second half, we hit the post and went just wide with another", Pellegrini was quoted as saying by the BBC.

"In the first half we did not play with enough intensity, I thought they would be more tired in the second half and we would be able to move the ball easier which we did but in the end we couldn't take our chances.

"I don't think it was a fault of our team for the performance in the first half, it was more about the intensity of West Ham and you must credit them for that."

And the Chilean tactician insists nothing is decided in the Premier League yet.

"We are just starting the season, we have 80 points left to play for. So it is early. We will continue fighting because there is no title being handed out at the moment."
