Arsenal boss Arsene Wenger has stressed the importance of the Gunners winning today after they came away with a 2-0 victory at Sunderland.

Sunderland started the game under real pressure to bounce back from an 8-0 drubbing at Southampton last weekend, and at once appeared more at the races.

However, the Black Cats had the stuffing knocked out of them when Alexis Sanchez struck for the Gunners on the 30-minute mark.

Arsenal dominated possession, but Sunderland continued to give as they got, having regular shots at the Gunners' goal.

But Arsenal doubled their advantage through Sanchez again in injury time and then saw out the game and grabbed their third win of the Premier League season.

"You could feel that we had a lot of the ball and Sunderland were focused on defending very well", Wenger was quoted as saying by the BBC.

"They came out with more purpose in the second half but on the break we had many chances.

"We played away on Wednesday and again today so what was most important was the points. In life you can always improve but what was important for us today was to get the three points and keep a clean sheet", the Frenchman added.

Wenger also praised double goalscorer Sanchez.

"Sanchez is not scared to take the ball and go at you anywhere and that is very important. He got two goals but we want more."
