Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho has blamed the Spanish national team for Diego Costa’s hamstring injury.

The Spaniard started the season in prolific form for the Blues, scoring nine goals in seven appearances, but he has missed Chelsea’s last three league fixtures due to a recurring hamstring problem.

He has also been ruled out of their League Cup tie against Shrewsbury tonight and Mourinho has firmly placed the blame at Spain’s door.

Vicente del Bosque fielded the former Atletico Madrid man in back-to-back games against Slovakia and Luxembourg earlier this month.

"Diego has the hamstring [problem] because he played two matches in three days when he was not with us”, the Chelsea manager told ITV.

"But he still has the national team in November!

"I think so", replied the Portuguese when asked if Costa would be fit for Saturday's league fixture against Queens Park Rangers.

The Chelsea manager said earlier this month that he feels powerless in front of national team managers who select his players and has only had recent contact from England boss Roy Hodgson.
