Leeds United defender Stephen Warnock believes that the club's former manager Darko Milanic was still in a transitional period at Elland Road, which was to be expected with the appointment of any new boss.

Milanic left his post as Sturm Graz coach to take up the job at Leeds just last month, but found himself sacked after just 32 days in charge on Saturday by club owner Massimo Cellino.

The Slovenian led Leeds to three draws and three defeats in six Championship games in charge.

Warnock admits he was surprised to see Milanic lose his job, especially as a transitional period is to be expected when any new manager is appointed.

"I think it's a surprise to everyone the way it unfolded so quickly", the left-back told LUTV.

"We knew the results hadn't been going too well, but I think when every manager comes in there is a sort of transitional period where sometimes results don't go the way they should."

However, Warnock concedes that the Leeds players must simply now accept life without Milanic, with Neil Redfearn taking over from the Slovenian.

"But the chairman's decided to change it and we have to deal with that and get on with it now."
