Arsenal midfielder Jack Wilshere has insisted that he wants to improve his goalscoring record in the current campaign.

The England international has thus far found the back of the net once this season in 13 appearances in all competitions.

And Wilshere, who admitted his goalscoring record has never been “good enough”, wants to emulate the likes of Steven Gerrard and Frank Lampard during their prime.

The 22-year-old explained that he may not be able to match his compatriots Gerrard and Lampard’s goalscoring prowess, but added that he is confident about reaching double figures in a season.

“I’ve said before that my goalscoring record has never been good enough and that I always want to add more goals”, Wilshere told his club’s official site.

“You look at the top midfielders in the world like Lampard and Gerrard who were getting 15 or 20 goals a season back in their day.

“I’m not saying I can get that many because they were specialists at that, but I could definitely get into double figures.”

Wilshere, whose present contract with Arsenal runs until the summer of 2018, has thus far amassed 146 appearances for the club, scoring 11 times.

He also has 24 caps for England to his name, but is yet to score at international level.
