Napoli sporting director Riccardo Bigon has ruled out the Serie A side making a move for Liverpool striker Mario Balotelli.

Rafael Benitez's side have been linked with offering Balotelli an escape route from the Premier League in January, with Napoli mooted as being ready to pay £10m to sign the controversial hitman.

Balotelli has come under fire for his performances since joining Liverpool from AC Milan for £16m in the summer, but did score his second goal for the club in their League Cup win over Swansea City earlier this week.

And Bigon, who admits he has heard of rumours linking Balotelli with a move to Napoli, has played down suggestions such a deal could materialise.

"They say this in Spain, England and Italy, but I don't think it's a possibility", Bigon explained to Mediaset Premium before Napoli's match against Atalanta.

"Nothing that has been said about this is true.

"The fact remains that Mario Balotelli is a great player, but he was just bought by Liverpool, who really believe in him", the sporting director continued.

"I wish the very best to Mario for his English adventure."

Napoli already have former Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain to call upon in attack, the striker scoring one and missing a penalty in the club's 1-1 Serie A draw away at Atalanta.
