Ron Vlaar has stated that Aston Villa need to put in a lot of hard work to turn their season around after a horrid run of defeats.

After a promising start to the new campaign, Villa have lost five on the trot in the league and have dropped down to 15th in the table.

Their last defeat came against a struggling Queens Park Rangers on Monday night and their last win in the league came away to Liverpool last month.

And Vlaar admits that Villa need to get their season back on track and start picking up some points to get their confidence going.

"We have to do better”, the Villa captain told AVTV.

“That's one thing for sure. We have to start picking up points again. Results give confidence and that's what we have to do.”

Villa have conceded 13 goals and failed to find the back of the net even once in their five back-to-back defeats. The Dutchman feels a lot of hard work is needed to get Villa up and running again.

He admits that the fans are getting frustrated after such a horrid run of defeats, but said that only hard work can get Villa back on track again.

"It's easier said than done but we have to work really hard to achieve it – and then build on that.

"At the moment it's hard for us. It must be frustrating for the fans too, I know that.

"It's always easy to talk after and say what was wrong and what was right. But there's only one thing to do and that's step up again.

"At the moment we are conceding too easy. And it's hard for us to make goals. That's a team thing.

"But we will work really hard – that's where it all starts."

The Villans host Tottenham on Sunday at Villa Park as they look to get their season up and running again.
