Manchester City manager Manuel Pellegrini has revealed that Samir Nasri is in line to return to action in his side’s League Cup clash against Newcastle United tonight.

The Frenchman was sidelined for over a month with a groin problem, which required surgery.

However, Pellegrini confirmed that Nasri, who has made six appearances in all competitions for the Citizens this season, is in his squad for their contest against the Magpies.

But the Chilean boss explained that Frank Lampard, who has been in fine form for the Citizens since joining the English champions on a six-month loan deal from New York City in the summer, will miss the game at St. James' Park as well as the Manchester derby at the weekend with a muscle injury.

“Frank Lampard has a muscle injury but all the other players in the squad are fit”, Pellegrini told the club’s official site.

“Samir Nasri is working normally and he is in the squad list.

“I don’t think Frank will be fit for the weekend but maybe he can be fit for next week.”

Manchester City, who are currently third in the Premier League with 17 points from nine games, thrashed Sheffield Wednesday 7-0 in the previous round of the League Cup in September.
