Arsenal and Napoli target Maxime Gonalons is set to extend his contract with French giants Lyon, disappointing his suitors.

The defensive midfielder, whose present contract with the French outfit runs until 2016, was linked with a move away from the club during the summer transfer window, with Arsenal and Napoli interested.

However, Gonalons stayed put at the Stade Gerland and it seems that the 25-year-old is ready to extend his stay at the club after Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas met with the representatives of the player on Tuesday.

It is believed that both parties are very close to an agreement, which will see Gonalons stay at the club until 2018, according to French daily Le Progres.

Gonalons, who is a product of Lyon’s youth system, has thus far amassed 218 appearances in all competitions for the club, scoring 11 times.
