Luis Suarez has revealed that Juventus made him an offer in the summer of 2012, but Brendan Rodgers convinced him to remain at Liverpool.

The Uruguayan joined the Reds in January 2011, bought by then-manager Kenny Dalglish. Suarez instantly struck up a strong rapport with the former forward and when Dalglish was sacked by Liverpool's American owners in the summer of 2012, was approached by Juventus.

Rodgers, who was appointed as Dalglish's successor, moved quickly to ensure that Suarez would not be tempted to quit Anfield.

Suarez was quoted as saying in a new biography, by Voetbal Primeur: "I had my first call from Rodgers at Melwood before he was officially presented.

"It was not a long conversation", Suarez continued.

"He wanted to see me because there was an opportunity to go to Juventus.

"Rodgers called me and said in Spanish that he needed me.

"He wanted to play attacking football, which he convinced me of. Even though the results were not immediately good, we played better football.

"That was wonderful."

Suarez eventually exited Liverpool this summer, joining Barcelona after finishing last season as the Premier League's top scorer with 31 goals to his name.
