Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has praised his opposite number at Newcastle United, Alan Pardew, ahead of a meeting between the two sides on Saturday.

Pardew is an unpopular figure with the Newcastle fans and has seen a campaign formed to call for his sacking, led at sackpardew.com.

He has recently seen Newcastle's form turn around somewhat, with wins over Leicester City, Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City (League Cup) and takes the Magpies into the Liverpool game in high spirits.

And for Rodgers, there is no doubt that Pardew is a talented manager, despite the criticism he has received.

"It's a credit to the directors at Newcastle [that they’ve stood by him]. I know Alan is a top class man, but there's pressure if you're not winning games", Rodgers told a press conference.

"He's a very experienced and a very talented manager, is Alan Pardew.

"An outstanding manager. So his team will get results and we will know that will be a difficult game for us", the Liverpool manager concluded.

Liverpool played out a 2-2 draw with Newcastle when they visited St. James' Park last season.
