Tyler Blackett has stressed that being a local boy gives him extra motivation to do well at Manchester United.

Blackett has been at the club since he was eight and after rising through the ranks, Louis van Gaal handed him his debut against Swansea in the first game of the current season.

Blackett has made five more league appearances this term and admits that playing for his boyhood club is a dream come true for him.

"It means everything to me", the defender told the club’s official site.

"I was brought up here in Manchester and playing now for United is like a dream come true. Hopefully, I'll continue to do my best for the club.”

The 20-year-old has insisted that being a local boy at the club is not a burden for him, but an extra incentive to do well for the Red Devils as he knows what it means to his family of Manchester United supporters when he plays at Old Trafford in the famous red jersey.

"Being a local lad, there's no extra pressure but it's something I thrive on.

“As one of the more local lads, I know what this club means. Don't get me wrong, the foreign players know Manchester United as well but being a local lad gives you extra incentive to do well.

"You know the history and which players have come through with my being here all through the ranks. I know what it means to me and my family as well."

Blackett will hope to be involved when Manchester United pay a visit to their city rivals Manchester City on Sunday.
