Benfica midfielder Nicolas Gaitan is set to extend his contract with the club, despite being heavily linked with Manchester United on a consistent basis.

Schooled in Boca Juniors’ youth system, the Argentine joined the Portuguese giants in 2010 and quickly came into the notice of some of the top European clubs with his performances.

Manchester United have been consistently linked with a move for Gaitan for the last few seasons, but a transfer has so far failed to materialise, and the 26-year-old has often spoken of his commitment to the Estadio da Luz outfit.

With the interest in Gaitan refusing to die down however, Benfica are desperate to extend his contract and secure their asset’s future.

And it is believed that the club are close to agreeing a new contract with the 26-year-old in the near future.
