Despite Napoli suggesting that Mario Balotelli is unlikely to be arriving at the club in January, the Liverpool striker has again been linked with the Serie A outfit.

Balotelli has had a lacklustre start to life at Liverpool since joining the Reds for £16m in the summer from AC Milan.

He has been challenged to show he has a long-term future at the club by manager Brendan Rodgers and Napoli were mooted to be preparing a £10m swoop.

That was played down by the club's sporting director Riccardo Bigon yesterday, as he hailed Balotelli as a "great player", but insisted Liverpool have full belief in the Italian.

However, according to Sky Italia, Balotelli could yet end up at Rafael Benitez's side in January.

Napoli are continuing to keep an eye on Balotelli's situation and are thought to be attracted by the idea of playing him alongside Gonzalo Higuain in attack.

The next two months before the transfer window opens now look crucial to Balotelli's future at Liverpool.
