Southampton boss Ronald Koeman has insisted that his side have their eyes on the League Cup trophy, following their 3-2 win over Stoke City last night.

The Saints, who defeated the Potters 1-0 in a Premier League fixture at the weekend, raced to a two-goal lead by the 30th minute at the Britannia Stadium, courtesy of Graziano Pelle and Shane Long.

Although Stoke came back into the contest after the break with goals from Steven N'Zonzi and Mame Diouf, Pelle’s late winner sealed the deal for Southampton.

And Koeman, who feels his side were the deserved winners against Stoke, explained that Southampton are keen to win a trophy this season with the League Cup being the most important tournament for them.

"I think it was deserved because we created more chances than Stoke”, he told the BBC.
