Arsenal are ready to rekindle their interest in Sporting Lisbon’s combative midfielder William Carvalho.

The Gunners were interested in him in the summer and even made a late bid for the midfielder which was knocked back by the Portuguese outfit.




Arsene Wenger is keen to bring in a defender in January, but a defensive midfielder is also on his agenda for the winter transfer window.

And the Frenchman is ready to rekindle his interest in the Sporting Lisbon midfielder, according to Portuguese sports daily O Jogo.
 


Carvalho has a release clause of €45m and Sporting are not ready to accept a bid that is below the figure, which has the potential to be a hindrance in the deal.

Manchester United were also linked with the midfielder in the summer, but Sporting’s tough stance on the release clause scared the Red Devils off.

It remains to be seen whether Wenger is ready to invest such a large sum in the 22-year-old Portuguese international.

Carvalho has made ten appearances this season and has eight international caps for Portugal to his name.
