Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has backed Rickie Lambert to end his goalscoring drought, ahead of his side’s Premier League clash with Newcastle United tomorrow.

The striker, who joined the Reds from Southampton in the summer, is yet to find the back of the net for the Merseyside giants.

However, Rodgers has been impressed with Lambert’s hard work in training, and he feels the England international will start banging in goals soon.

The manager, who admitted that Lambert has been sparingly used, further added that he was pleased with the 32-year-old’s display during the Anfield outfit’s 2-1 triumph over Swansea City in the League Cup on Tuesday.

"Rickie Lambert, who hasn't had many opportunities, his goals will come”, Rodgers explained to the club’s official site.
