Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard has revealed that he may leave the club next summer if the Merseyside giants do not offer him a new contract.

The ex-England captain, whose present deal with the Reds will expire next summer, made his debut for the club in 1998.

Gerrard has since grown in stature at Anfield and rejected offers from various clubs to stay loyal to Liverpool.

However, the 34-year-old, who revealed that he plans to continue playing beyond this season, explained that he is open to the idea of leaving Liverpool in order to prolong his career.

“I’m only contracted until May, as it stands", Gerrard was quoted as saying by ITV.

"I’m here until the end of the season and want to make the most of it. I certainly won’t be retiring this summer. I will play beyond this season.

“We’ll have to wait and see if that’s at Liverpool or somewhere else."

Gerrard, who retired from international football after the 2014 World Cup, has thus far amassed 681 appearances in all competitions for his boyhood club, scoring 176 times.

The midfielder is yet to win a Premier League title, having won the other notable tournaments with Liverpool.
