Franck Ribery’s agent Jean-Pierre Bernes has revealed that negative vibes forced the winger to quit international football.

The Frenchman, who missed the 2014 World Cup with a back injury, bid adieu to international football in the summer.

And Bernes insisted that constant debates surrounding the Bayern Munich star was the reason behind his international retirement.

"He took this decision because there were constant debates about him”, he was quoted as saying by Voetbal Primeur.

“After he missed the World Cup, it was said he is afraid of needles, and that France would play better without him.

“When you hear that, it creates a negative ambience.”

Ribery has been tipped to be back in the international fold before the 2016 European Championship, which will take place in his homeland France.

However Bernes, who supports Ribery’s decision to retire from international football, explained that his client currently harbours no dream about representing his nation in the continental competition.

"Franck is an emotional person. I'm sure the decision he has taken is the right one", he continued.

"There is no secret agreement with coach Didier Deschamps regarding Ribery’s return.

"Franck will still be an emotional boy over the two years. Currently, he is only focusing on his life.”

Ribery, who made his international debut in 2006, earned 83 caps for France, scoring 16 times.
