Manchester City’s David Silva has been ruled out of action for three weeks due to a knee injury ahead of the Manchester derby.

The Spanish international was forced off from the pitch during Manchester City’s League Cup loss to Newcastle on Wednesday after Magpies midfielder Ryan Taylor tackled him from behind.

Manuel Pellegrini expressed concern after the match about the state of Silva’s injury, but was unsure about the extent of it.

“We will see tomorrow [Thursday]. David has a problem with his knee but I don’t know how serious it is”, the Chilean said.

But according to Madrid-based daily Marca, tests have revealed that the Manchester City schemer will be out for action for three weeks.
