Jose Mourinho has claimed that Chelsea manage Diego Costa’s injury better than Spain.

Costa has made a flying start to his Chelsea career this season, scoring nine goals in seven league appearances, but has missed Chelsea’s last two league fixtures with recurring hamstring problems.

Vicente del Bosque fielded the 26-year-old in back-to-back games for Spain against Slovakia and Luxembourg earlier this month.

The Chelsea manager confirmed that the former Atletico Madrid man is available for selection for Queens Park Rangers’ visit to Stamford Bridge tomorrow.

“Diego is available”, Mourinho said in a press conference.

The Spanish national team doctor Juan Jose Garcia Cota claimed earlier this week the Costa was only suffering with a minor groin niggle and not any hamstring issues.

But Mourinho said that it was evident that Spain failed to manage Costa properly and he is on a special fitness programme at Chelsea which the national team failed to follow.

“The only thing I can say is that he was having problems at Cheslea but we managed him well to keep him playing.

“After the [his stint with the] national team we missed him for four matches in three different competitions.

“He is now available but he needs to be under special care and we will do that.”
