Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal insists he is not at all envious of the squad that his Manchester City counterpart Manuel Pellegrini has at his disposal.

Pellegrini led the Citizens to the Premier League title last term and the expensively-assembled squad at the Etihad Stadium is arguably the strongest in English football in terms of depth.

Van Gaal splurged over £150m on new players this summer for the Red Devils, in a bid to restore them to the pinnacle of the English game. However, there are still areas of the Manchester United team which are viewed as needing improvement.

But, on the eve of the Manchester derby, Van Gaal is not about to bemoan his squad in comparison to Manchester City's.

"I am proud of my players and that is the most important thing and when we play like a team then we have a big chance to win", Van Gaal added.
