Queens Park Rangers boss Harry Redknapp has expressed his eagerness to sign former Tottenham Hotspur striker Jermain Defoe in January.

Redknapp has been a long-term admirer of the England striker and has signed him twice before, for Portsmouth and Tottenham.

The striker signed for MLS side Toronto FC in January, while the Hoops came calling for his signature in the summer, but were unable to do a deal.

"He's a player we would be interested in in January, but it depends on the expense of the deal", Redknapp told a press conference this morning.

While the veteran manager had no inhibitions about talking up their interest in the striker, he also took time to refute claims that a deal has already been struck between the two sides for the player.

"Nothing is anywhere near being concluded.

"We tried to get him before the deadline, but I don't think there's been any movement on that one.

"I'm a big fan of Jermain. I've signed him enough times.

"He's a goalscorer and a player you'd obviously like at your club if possible, but the figures would have to be right.

"I haven't spoken to Tony [Fernandes the chairman] about it yet."
