Roma defender Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa has insisted that he felt “lost” at his parent club Newcastle United.

The 25-year-old was signed by the Magpies from Montpellier in January 2013 before the Premier League outfit decided to loan him out to Roma in the summer.

Yanga-Mbiwa has already put in a number of impressive displays for the Italian giants, which prompted France boss Didier Deschamps to recall the centre-back to the national team.

And the defender, who explained that he will give his all for Les Bleus, revealed that he does not hold fond memories of his stay at St. James' Park.

"I am very happy to have been recalled, I will give my best so that the coach puts me in the field”, he told French radio station RMC.

“It was very complicated, but now I'm back to my best.”

Yanga-Mbiwa has thus far made 12 appearances in all competitions for Roma, who can make his move permanent after the end of the season.

The defender has three senior caps for France to his name.
