Darko Milanic insists he does not regret having left Austrian side Sturm Graz to take over at Leeds United.

The Slovenian boss answered Leeds' call in September, quitting Sturm Graz, where he was highly rated, to pen a contract until the summer of 2016 at Elland Road. The Austrian Bundesliga club even bought Milanic a plane ticket to England in an emotional farewell press conference.

However, after just 32 days in charge, which took in a run of three draws and three defeats in the Championship, Milanic was shown the door by Leeds owner Massimo Cellino.

He has insisted he remains employed with the club though and is ready to return at a moment's notice should Cellino require his services once again.

But for now, Milanic has had chance to ponder his time at Leeds and does not regret taking up the challenge at the Whites.

"When the offer came a month ago there was not much thinking about how things turned out today", Milanic explained to Primorske Novice.

"We need to wait a while, because in football there are always many options and who knows what will happen in a month?

"It was a short time in the Championship, but in no way to I take it as a bitter experience – not a chance.

"I experienced six matches, six fantastic experiences and that was really worth the experience and I can only wish to have a similar opportunity."

Milanic, who led NK Maribor to four Slovenian titles and managed in the Champions League before heading to Austria, admits that being sacked is something new to him. However, he refuses to be downbeat.

"So far everything is going according to the desired plan and there's not a single regret", he said, assessing his career.

"Although my current status is something completely new for me, one should be aware that for a coach this is something completely normal.

"I myself made certain that I did everything right."
