Ron Vlaar's agent has dropped a strong hint that his client is ready to quit Aston Villa next summer when his contract with Paul Lambert's men expires.

The Netherlands international is attracting interest from both Arsenal and Manchester United, while his agent revealed that last summer Southampton came calling.

It had been suggested that Aston Villa have started talks over a contract extension with Vlaar, who is a key man in the club's defence, but Arnold Oosterveer says such information is considerably wide of the mark.

"We have not spoken to Aston Villa", the agent told Voetbal International.

"The club have not requested talks with us."

And for Vlaar's agent, the end of the season, when his client's contract expires, could well be the perfect time for a move, with the Netherlands international an ambitious player.

"The ball is with Aston Villa. Ron is in a situation which is not unfavourable.

"We are in no hurry.

"I don't want to respond [to rumours about Arsenal and Manchester United], but the natural break for Ron is now and it's the time to take a nice step. He is ambitious.

"Last summer, Southampton were interested in Ron. But we asked ourselves whether that club would be a step forward compared to Aston Villa. Now that club are suddenly second, so things can happen quickly."
