Daryl Janmaat has brushed off suggestions that by quitting Feyenoord for Newcastle United in the summer he joined a smaller club.

Feyenoord finished second in the Eredivisie last term and are regularly to be found amongst the top clubs in the Dutch top flight.

Newcastle by contrast have struggled to make their mark in the Premier League this term, though a recent run of good form has propelled Alan Pardew's men up to eighth.

Janmaat is pleased with his decision to move to St. James' Park and insists Newcastle are a far bigger club than their recent league finishes suggest.

"In terms of performance we might not be of the calibre of the teams at the top, but in terms of the size of the club we sure are", the defender told Voetbal International.

"Newcastle United are big, comparable to Feyenoord.

"If I'm playing midweek in the cup, there are two thousand fans travelling, no matter where you go.

"When that happens you know that you're playing with a big club and especially now that the results are good you can feel how everyone feels.

"I have no regrets about my transfer.

"It's like I'm in a warm nest, as was the case with Feyenoord.

"The people are all nice and helpful and what we have seen in England is perfectly to our liking.

"I'm sure this has been a good step for me in all respects."

Janmaat has so far clocked up eleven Premier League appearances for the Magpies this term, along with turning out three times in the League Cup.
