Everton manager Roberto Martinez has insisted that he is confident about Ross Barkley becoming England's greatest player ever.

The 20-year-old was in fine form for the Toffees last term, scoring seven goals in 38 appearances in all competitions.

Barkley’s sparkling displays prompted England boss Roy Hodgson to include him in his World Cup squad.

Despite the Three Lions’ early elimination from the showpiece event, the youngster received widespread praise for his impressive performances in Brazil.

And Martinez is of the opinion that Barkley will become his country's best player, owing to his wide range of skills.

"There is no doubt in my mind that he will be the best player England has ever had”, he told the club’s official site.

"Ross has everything. Normally a player has the pace and power to get around the pitch or they have the vision to pick a pass. Ross can do both of those things.

"Not only that, he is in love with the game."

Barkley, who was an unused substitute during England’s 3-1 win over Slovenia in a 2016 European Championship qualifier on Saturday, has thus far earned nine caps for the nation.
