Borussia Dortmund are keeping a close eye on former Manchester United goalkeeper Ron-Robert Zieler.

The 25-year-old joined Hannover in 2010 from Manchester United on a free transfer and has slowly built a reputation in Germany.

The German has been capped by his country three times and has a formidable record in the Bundesliga with Hannover.

Dortmund are looking for a replacement for the ageing Roman Weidenfeller, whose contract is set to expire in 2016, and they have zeroed in on the Hannover shot-stopper, according to Eurosport.

Zieler’s deal with Hannover is set to expire in the summer of 2017, but it also has a release clause of €7m.

It remains to be seen whether Dortmund are willing to pay the full release clause or whether they will try to bring Hannover to the negotiating table.

Zieler has 41 clean sheets from 162 appearances for Hannover and he was also part of the German squad that won the World Cup this summer.
