Everton manager Roberto Martinez has insisted that he is pleased with Leighton Baines’ recovery process from a hamstring injury.

The defender picked up the injury during England’s training last week and hence withdrew from the national squad for their 2016 European Championship qualifier against Slovenia on Saturday, which the Three Lions won 3-1, and the friendly against Scotland at Celtic Park tonight.

Baines returned to Everton and scans revealed that his injury is not as severe as first feared.

However Martinez, who feels the left-back’s days on the sidelines are numbered, refused to provide any time frame as to when the 29-year-old will return to action.

"Scans revealed he had a grade one hamstring injury”, the manager was quoted as saying by the club’s official feed.

“Those injuries depend on the individual and how quickly they can heal.

"Leighton is responding well to treatment. It is too early to say how long he is going to be out but we remain very positive."

Baines, who has made 15 appearances in all competitions for the Toffees in the current campaign, scoring three times and providing nine assists, has 29 caps and a solitary goal for England to his name.
