Former Rangers and Newcastle United striker Peter Lovenkrands has announced his retirement from football today.

The 34-year-old, who has been without a club since leaving Birmingham City at the end of the 2013/14 campaign, started his playing career with Akademisk Boldklub before moving to Rangers in 2000.

Lovenkrands spent six successful seasons at Ibrox and helped the Gers to win two Scottish Premier League titles, three Scottish League Cups and one Scottish Cup.

The ex-Denmark international signed for Bundesliga outfit Schalke in 2006 before joining Newcastle United in January 2009.

The Magpies were relegated from the Premier League that season and Lovenkrands helped the St. James’ Park outfit to the Championship title in the next campaign as Newcastle United immediately returned to top flight football.
