Manchester United are trying to snatch Italian Under-18 full-back Diego Borghini from Empoli.

The defender recently made his debut for the Italian Under-18 team and has already earned three caps.

Manchester United scouts have been tracking the progress of Borghini for the last few months and his performances for the Azzurri's Under-18 side have convinced the club to try to bring him to Old Trafford.

The Red Devils are trying to take advantage of the fact that the defender is still to sign a professional contract with Empoli, according to Italian news outlet Tutto Mercato.

Meanwhile, Empoli are powerless if Borghini decides to join the English giants and they will only receive a small amount of compensation as a training fee.
