Nani is on loan at Sporting Lisbon for the campaign, with Manchester United picking up his wages in full.

He has turned in impressive performances for Sporting Lisbon in Portugal, as well as shining in the Champions League.

It has now been claimed that as a result Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal wants Nani back in January.

And Ferreira hopes that Sporting Lisbon are being honest when they say there is no provision in the loan for it to end early.

"When I saw him playing well, I had this fear that they would want him to return", the ex-presidential candidate told Radio Renascenca.

"I do not know the terms of the loan, but I can only assume that Sporting are telling the truth when they say that Nani was loaned for the season.

"Only an idiot would say that he would not be a great loss to Sporting [if he went back to Manchester United]."
