Real Madrid are not interested in extending AC Milan and Arsenal target Sami Khedira’s contract beyond next summer, news which will place his suitors on high alert.

The German World Cup winner’s contract is set to expire at the end of the season, but the player said last week that he is keen to stay at Los Blancos.

Last season he was out with a cruciate ligament injury, but Real Madrid as a show of confidence in Khedira’s ability, offered him a new contract.

At that time the player’s representatives failed to provide a positive response to the club and now Real Madrid are not ready to offer another new deal, according to radio station Cadena SER.

Khedira was an important of Real Madrid’s squad last season and despite his long injury layoff, he did play in the Champions League final. However, the landscape at Bernabeu has changed this term.

With the arrival of Toni Kroos, the 27-year-old is not the most important part of Carlo Ancelotti’s side at the moment and hence the club are not desperate to extend Khedira’s contract.

The latest development might give Arsenal and AC Milan renewed hope in their pursuit of the German midfield general and a January move is still not inconceivable unless Ancelotti feels he needs Khedira until the end of the season because of Luka Modric’s recent injury.
