Celtic midfielder Callum McGregor believes that he can handle the criticism over his recent lean patch.

The midfielder made a rousing start to the campaign and quickly cemented his place in Ronny Deila’s side.

Three goals in successive European away fixtures underlined his importance at Celtic, but the youngster is going through a lean patch.

His poor run of form also meant that he lost his starting berth and made his last two appearances in the league for the Hoops from the bench.

But the midfielder is ready to accept the brickbats for his lean patch and said that a bad run of form is part of being a professional footballer.

The 21-year-old also said that his form is also forcing him to take a broader look at the game and said that if he keeps working hard the good performances are just around the corner.

“It’s tough but you have to expect it”, he told Celtic View.

“Not everybody isn’t going to think you are a good player and you just need to try and do what the manager asks of you and help your team-mates on the park. That’s the main thing.

“At the start of the season, when I was scoring goals and playing really well, everybody is your best pal.

“But if it goes the other way, that’s not the case. It’s just one of those things in football you need to deal with, but that’s fine. I can deal with that.

“It makes you appreciate that when you are doing well that you need to enjoy it as well. If you enjoy it and be part of it, the performances will come.”
