Louis van Gaal admits he may have to break his own rules when it comes to picking Manchester United's side for a clash against Arsenal this weekend.

The Dutchman is firmly against rushing players back from injury and feels that they should ideally have at least one week training with the squad before being considered for selection.

But with a whole raft of injuries, Van Gaal admits he may have to break his own rules when it comes to picking a team to play the Gunners at the Emirates Stadium.

"We have to wait for tomorrow's training session to decide if [some players] are back", he told a press conference.

"My philosophy is that you have to train at least one week with the squad, better two.

"But if you see our circumstances, we maybe have to bring players back to the squad."

While Daley Blind is looking at a number of months out following an injury on international duty, Van Gaal is able to report David de Gea, who dislocated a finger with Spain, is available for selection.

"De Gea is good, no problem", he said.
