Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal has confirmed that Daley Blind will not be out for six months, as reported, with his injury not as bad as first feared.

Blind hurt his knee during the Netherlands 6-0 thrashing of Latvia in a Euro 2016 qualifier in midweek and was instantly sent for a scan.

He must now rest for ten days before having a fresh scan on the injury, but Blind, Van Gaal has confirmed, will not miss six months, as had been claimed. The manager told a press conference: "He has a brace on his knee. After 10 days' rest, he'll have another scan that will say more about the injury."

He added: "It's not as bad as the doctors thought after the match, but it shall be a long story, I believe, but not six months or something like that."

The news is a relief to the Red Devils, who had been beginning to feel the benefit of the Dutchman's performances in the middle of the park.
