Veteran goalkeeper Gianluigi Buffon has signed a new two-year contract extension with Juventus.

The Italian international’s contract was supposed to expire next summer and the Juventus CEO Giuseppe Marotta said last week that a new deal for Buffon was only a formality.

And that formality has been completed and Buffon has put pen to paper on a new deal that will keep him at the Bianconeri until the summer of 2017.

Though he is ageing, Buffon is confident that he can still perform at the top level for a few years to come.

"I want to continue performing to a high level, so that I can be an asset and a point of reference for the club", the goalkeeper was quoted as saying by the BBC.
