Per Mertesacker admits that Mesut Ozil and himself have tried to convince Sami Khedira of the merits of a switch to Arsenal.

The German World Cup winner’s contract with Real Madrid is set to expire next summer and Arsenal have been consistently linked with making a move to secure his signature.

It has been claimed that Real Madrid will not be extending his deal, while another report from Spain suggested that he has agreed a pre-contract to join Bayern Munich at the end of the season on a free transfer.

Though the reports are unconfirmed, it would be a major blow for Arsene Wenger if the German midfield general joins Bayern Munich as the Gunners have been maintaining their interest since the summer.

And even Arsenal defender Mertesacker admits that, along with Ozil, he has asked Khedira to bolster the German contingent at the Emirates Stadium.
