Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has revealed that he has buried the hatchet with his Netherlands team-mate Robin van Persie.

The duo previously shared a strained relationship due to competition for a starting berth for the Oranje.

But the Schalke striker insisted that he now shares a cordial relationship with his Manchester United counterpart after talking at length during the Netherlands’ training sessions.

“Robin and I have talked a lot with each other in the training camp”, he told Voetbal International.

“We have similar characters, which can sometimes collide.

“Our relationship is now better than ever which is very positive.”

Both strikers found the back of the net after starting in the Netherlands’ 6-0 rout of Latvia in a 2016 European Championship qualifier earlier in the week.

And Huntelaar feels Holland could try playing with two forwards against other countries as well.

"It allows you to exert more pressure and keep the initiative in your hands”, he continued.

“But remember, it's not up to me to decide how we are going to play the next game.”

Huntelaar, whose contract with Schalke expires next summer, has been linked with a move away from the Bundesliga outfit during the winter transfer window, with Liverpool, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur all interested in acquiring the services of the 31-year-old.
