Former Liverpool European Cup winning striker Michael Robinson believes that ex-Manchester United boss David Moyes needs to adapt to Spanish football quickly.

Real Sociedad unveiled Moyes as their new manager last week and the Scot replaced Jagoba Arrasate, who was sacked after a string of poor results.

The appointment is Moyes’ first crack at management after his ill-fated stint at Manchester United came to an end in April this year after a season of disappointments and new lows for the club.

The former Everton boss will be looking to rebuild his battered reputation in the sunny locales of San Sebastian, but Robinson feels that he needs to first adapt to the style of football in Spain.

The former Liverpool man, who does regular media work in Spain for Canal Plus Liga after a spell playing in the country with Osasuna, said that it would be a great mistake if Moyes tries to emulate the style of football in England.

“It is he who has to adapt to suit the squad”, Robinson told Mundo Deportivo.

“And they will not adapt to a style that will stop them from playing football because the other 19 teams are from Spain, not England.

“While some of the things will remain the same, it would be a mistake if David Moyes tries to convert La Real into an English team. It would be a grave mistake.”

Moyes’ Real Sociedad will take on Deportivo La Coruna on Saturday at the Riazor.
