Lyon have confirmed that Arsenal and Napoli target Maxime Gonalons has signed a contract extension with the club.

The 25-year-old, whose previous contract was set to expire in 2016, has now put pen to paper on a new deal which will keep him at the Stade Gerland until 2018.

Gonalons was linked with a move away from Lyon during the summer transfer window, with Napoli and Arsenal both interested in acquiring the services of the defensive midfielder.

But the France international insisted that he was delighted to extend his stay with Les Gones.

"I am very proud to continue my adventure with the club of my heart”, he told the club’s official site.
