Javier Mascherano has played down talk of his Barcelona team-mate Lionel Messi leaving the club in the future.

Messi, who has been at Barcelona since 2000, recently revealed that although he wishes to retire at the club, he cannot rule out the possibility of a future exit from the Camp Nou.

The 27-year-old has thus far amassed 440 appearances for Barcelona, scoring 365 times and has helped the Catalan giants to six La Liga titles, two Copa del Rey trophies, three Champions Leagues, two FIFA Club World Cups, one UEFA Super Cup and six Spanish Super Cups.

And Mascherano insisted that his Argentine compatriot is happy at Barcelona and that Messi wants to win more trophies with the club.

“I cannot comment about something I did not say”, he told Spanish daily AS.
