Brazil legend Ronaldo has picked Cristiano Ronaldo over Lionel Messi to win this year’s FIFA Ballon d’Or award.

The Real Madrid star, who helped Los Blancos to win the Champions League and the Copa del Rey last season, also played a significant role in helping Portugal qualify for the 2014 World Cup.

Cristiano Ronaldo has been in staggering form this term too, scoring 23 goals in just 17 appearances.

On the other hand, Messi, who endured a trophy-less 2013/14 campaign with Barcelona, helped Argentina to reach the final of the World Cup, where they were defeated 1-0 by Germany.

However, the 27-year-old has scored 19 goals and provided 12 assists in 22 games for Barcelona this season.

But Ronaldo backed the Portuguese international to win the prestigious award over the diminutive Argentine.

“I think we’ll see a repeat and he’ll win it again this year”, he told Spanish daily AS.

“He’s scoring lots of goals and is a big part of the way Real Madrid are playing.

“Messi is also in good form but Cristiano’s year has been memorable. Messi’s year hasn't been that memorable for him.”
