Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers says that Mario Balotelli will have his fitness assessed over the next two days.

Balotelli was forced with withdraw from the Italy squad over the international break after suffering a problem with his groin.

The Italian striker is now a doubt for Liverpool's clash against Crystal Palace and were he to miss out it would be a further blow for the Reds, who have seen Daniel Sturridge ruled out until the new year with injury.

Now Liverpool will take a close look at Balotelli's fitness before they make the trip to Selhurst Park.

"He had an issue with the Italian squad and he came home", Rodgers told a press conference, speaking about Balotelli.

"So we will assess that over the next couple of days", the Northern Irishman added.

Balotelli, who joined Liverpool in the summer from AC Milan for £16m, is still waiting for his first Premier League goal for the Reds.

He has scored just twice since signing for the club.
