Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is happy with Olivier Giroud's fitness, with the French striker back in contention to play this weekend, against Manchester United.

Giroud has been sidelined through injury, but has now returned ahead of schedule and at a welcome moment for the Arsenal manager as the busy festive fixture list looms.

And Wenger, who has confirmed he could select Giroud tomorrow if he wishes, is delighted.

"The surgery went well and there were no setbacks", the Frenchman told a press conference, speaking about Giroud.

"He is very solid and has a positive mentality – that helps."

However, while Giroud is now on the road back to featuring in the first team, Wenger feels the Manchester United game will come too soon for Theo Walcott.

The forward, who has himself just returned from a lengthy layoff, is unavailable.

"I don't think he will be available tomorrow", Wenger said.
