Sam Allardyce has revealed that West Ham want Winston Reid to sign a fresh deal at the club.

The centre-back, whose contract with the Hammers is set to expire next summer, has been linked with a move away from Upton Park after the end of the season, with Arsenal and Manchester United interested in roping in the defender on a free transfer.

However, Allardyce insisted that West Ham are currently negotiating with the New Zealand international, in view of extending his stay at the club.

But the manager was quick to admit that he might lose the 26-year-old, whom he hinted may be motivated by money.

"It's an ongoing negotiation at the moment”, Allardyce told his club’s official site.

“We want him to stay at the club, he's a great player who has done fantastically well for us.

“The chairmen will notify whenever an outcome, either way, has been reached.

“Like everything these days it's probably down to money."

Reid, who joined West Ham from Midtjylland in 2010, has thus far amassed 116 appearances in all competitions for the club, scoring seven times.
