Highly-rated Heerenveen midfielder Daley Sinkgraven has admitted talk he was a fan of Ajax in his childhood is true.

Ajax were keen to sign Sinkgraven this summer, but in the end pulled back in favour of allowing him a further season at Heerenveen to develop.

They may not have a free run at the midfielder next summer however, amid consistent speculation Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal is a fan.

However, ahead of Ajax's weekend clash with Heerenveen, the Dutch champions will at least be warmed by Sinkgraven's admission of support.

"Of course, that flatters me, but I'm trying to shake it off", the midfielder told Helden Online, speaking about Ajax's summer interest.

"I do not want that in my head during the match.

"That also does not mean I'm preparing differently. It's always fun to play against a big club, so in that respect I'm looking forward to the match against Ajax.

"And it's true that I was a fan of the club in my youth."

But Sinkgraven does not feel it should be assumed he will therefore join Ajax ahead of other suitors.

"That doesn't mean anything for my future and does not determine the choices I might make later."
