Athletic Bilbao are willing to bide their time over Arsenal defender Nacho Monreal.

The former Malaga left-back has been specifically requested by Athletic Bilbao coach Ernesto Valverde, who wants him tempted to the San Mames.

However, according to Spanish outlet Fichajes, Monreal is less than keen on calling time on his stay with Arsenal, especially as he has a further three years on his contract.

And so Athletic Bilbao have chosen to bide their time, confident that Monreal will soon find himself out of the Arsenal team once again.

The Basque club believe when Monreal slips out of Arsene Wenger's side he will be ready to consider a return to his homeland.

Wenger has called upon the Spaniard this term due to a number of defensive injuries.

The Gunners sold Thomas Vermaelen to Barcelona in the summer and failed to replace him, leading to a defensive shortage and Monreal being drafted into the centre of defence due to an injury to Laurent Koscielny.
