Ex-Manchester United midfielder Paul Ince feels his former club have made a mistake by selling Danny Welbeck to Arsenal, as it leaves them without genuine pace in attack.

The Red Devils offloaded Welbeck to Arsenal for £16m in the summer, with manager Louis van Gaal arguing he did not compare favourably on the goalscoring front with the club's other options, Robin van Persie, Wayne Rooney and Radamel Falcao.

But Ince thinks Van Gaal has overlooked Welbeck's explosive pace and the extra dimension that can bring to an attack; Welbeck has already been amongst the goals at Arsenal.

"When he left Manchester United it was a shock. He has got pace to get behind teams and create gaps for others to exploit", Ince explained to the BBC.

"I think it was a bad, bad decision to let him go. He offers something different to what Manchester United have got.

"They haven't got pace – Rooney is not the quickest, neither is Van Persie and Falcao is injured."

Ince though dismisses the thought that Welbeck will have something to prove to his former club when Arsenal take on Manchester United at the Emirates Stadium later today.

"Since he has gone to Arsenal his performances have been fantastic. I don't think he has got anything to prove to Manchester United", the former midfielder added.
